Video Transcript for Hands-On with the 48" Long Safety Chain with 1/4" S-Hook

What's going on everybody Adam here with etrailer. Today we have a trailer and we're gonna be talking about some safety chains. These are really essential and you need them for your trailer just to keep everybody safe. If this ball disconnects it's gonna catch and your trailer is not gonna go down the road. But these specifically are gonna be the Titan Chain Trailer Chains. So we have a couple of different options.

One, it all comes down to length. So we had the issue with this trailer. The ones that we're on here before we're a little too short, just because the ball mount on our customer's vehicle is a step mount. So it's a little bit further back. So length is something that we guys are looking at whenever trying to decide which one's right.

And with the Titan Chain, we have three different lengths. As you can see down here, we have 72 inches, we have 60 inches and we also have the 48 inches. And if you're doing this, it's just one big piece. So basically just measure from where your chains connect to your trailer, up to the loop, and then add a couple inches. 'Cause you don't want them to be too tight, 'cause when you start turning, they'll start to pull and you don't want them too loose 'cause we don't want these hitting the ground.

This is the desired result. So take a mental picture here. That is what we're really looking for. And it worked out really well. These are the 60 inch chains and it works out pretty good.

So going in depth with the chains, one, the link diameter is gonna be about 1/4 of an inch. So that kind of comes into play if you have a setup like this, to where you can remove these really quickly. So if you have this, these chains will work with it because of the link diameter being the size that they are. And another thing to think about is the S-Hooks. So we're gonna have two different options. One's gonna have the safety clip. I just like these just because why not You never know what happens. If you hit a speed bump or run over something, it could hit the bottom of the chain and these could fall off. But with the clip you're nice and safe. So this usually goes up towards the hitch. So these are gonna have a link diameter of about 7/16th of an inch. And as you can see, it's gonna basically fit any trailer hitch that you really have. These aren't really not gonna fit any of the ones that we have. So whenever you're searching, you don't really have to worry about this not being able to fit on top of there. So all you really need to figure out is what length you really need. And then the hooks is just gonna be your preference really, if you want the snappers grab snappers, if you don't, you don't need them. But another thing to kind of think about is the capacity of them. This one's 5,000 pounds. This trailer is about 3,500 pounds max capacity. So the 3000 pound chains weren't really ideal for this setup. And we wanna be a little bit safer whenever we're going down the road. So if you have a larger trailer and you're kind of in the middle, I would definitely recommend kind of thinking about what you're putting on it and maybe going and hopping up to a little bit bigger thicker chain. But at the end of the day, it's gonna keep you safe when you're going down the road. And that'll do it for a look at the Titan Chain Trailer Safety Chains..

  • 6 Foot Long Trailer Safety Chains For Swing Away Hinge
Sounds like you need 6 foot safety chains for use on your trailer that is using the Fulton Fold-Away Coupler Hinge Kit for 3" x 3" Tongue - Bolt On - Up to 5,000 lbs # FHDPB330301. We have the perfect option for 5k rated chains of that length, and you can choose between an S-hook with latch or quick link. I'm giving the option because some people don't like the S-hook (even with the latch), but some prefer it's ease of use over the quick link, so just go with whatever you are more comfortable...
